Search for livestock producer of the year – The Namibian

THE Livestock Producers Organisation (LPO) has started searching for the top producer of 2022.

According to a notice in the latest edition of the Namibia Agricultural Union (NAU) newsletter, this year, small stock producers who have been excluded from the competition in favour of cattle producers, will be given a chance to show their mettle.

The winner will be announced during the LPO’s steak braai on 3 October 2023, where attractive prizes will be up for grabs.

The LPO’s top producer award recognises producers who demonstrate excellence in the farming business, including marketing, farm finance, employee relations and environmental stewardship.

“The composition and scope (size) of the candidate’s business are irrelevant as the candidate can farm on his/her own or in partnership with others,” said the LPO, adding that, however, the candidate must manage specific assigned responsibilities on which he/she can be evaluated.

“The candidate must also have been a paid-up member of the NAU for at least the previous year ending 2022,” states the newsletter.

The judging team, which will visit all finalists on their farms, consists of experts in specific agricultural areas who use an objective scientific method to identify a winner based on predetermined international management criteria.

Entries close on 28 July 2023.

Entry forms will be available at all regional agricultural unions and farmers’ associations.
