Miller, Van der Schyff win first MTB race – The Namibian

ALEX Miller and Luanne van der Schyff won the elite men and women’s titles at the Nedbank XC Zero, the opening mountain bike cross country race of the season on Saturday.

In the Elite men’s race, Miller pulled away from the start and gradually increased his lead to finish a comfortable winner. He completed the seven laps in a time of one hour 20 minutes 39 seconds, finishing well ahead of the rest of the field.

The rest of the podium finishers were pulled off after six laps, with the 22-year-old Physically Active Youth rider Simon Kaita coming second in 1:21:40 and JG van der Westhuizen third in 1:22:43.

There were only two participants in the Elite women’s race, with Van der Schyff taking gold after completing four laps in 1:10:18, while Anique Schoeman was pulled off after completing two laps in 1:04:21.

Daniel Hahn won the Junior men’s u18 category over six laps in 1:14:49, with Theuns van der Westhuizen coming second more than two minutes behind in 1:17:01 and Oskar Roeber third in 1:18:05.

Roger Suren won the boys u16 category over five laps in 59:09, followed by Marco Thiel (1:01:03) and Sean Lowe (1:06:37), while Delsia Janse van Vuuren won the girls u16 category over three laps in 44:34, followed by Rosemarie Thiel (46:46) and Kylie Dickerson (53:35).

Julius Braun won the u14 boys category over three laps in 43:42, followed by Daniel Hennes (46:06) and Theodor Janse van Vuuren (47:45), while Nicole Suren won the u14 girls category over two laps in 33:24, followed by Bianca Nell (33:45) and Anne Cramer (34:11).

Petrus Human won the sub-veteran men’s category over five laps in 1:05:21, followed by Christo Swartz (1:07:52) and Ananias Tamati (1:08:22), while Lelanie Swart won the sub-veteran women’s category over four laps in 1:01:38, followed by Hester Prins (1:03:01) and Jean Marie Mostert (1:03:55).

Jacques Celliers won the veteran men’s category over five laps in 1:07:51, followed by Philip Steyn (1:08:29) and Vernon Maresch (1:10:22), while Irene Steyn won the veteran women’s category over four laps in 1:05:44, followed by Marion Schonecke (1:06:21) and Maike Bochert (1:15:11).

Elanor Grassow won the master women’s category over two laps in 35:00, while Carolin Janik won the grandmaster women’s category over one lap in 21:16, followed by Berrit Graf in 23:26.

Hans du Toit won the master men’s category over four laps in 55:04, followed by Greg Chase (55:09) and Mike Swanepoel (58:55), while Rolf Adrian won the grandmaster men’s category over three laps in 48:51, followed by Roland Graf (53:33) and Gunter Brettschneider (1:00:09).

JG van der Westhuizen won the marathon men category over six laps in 42:44, followed by Niel Swanepoel in 45:42 and Shaun Fobian in 56:06, while Claudia Suren won the marathon women’s category over five laps in 46:53, followed by Christine Steinfurth (53:43).

Micah Chase and Cari van der Westhuizen won the u12 boys and girls categories, while Sion Liebenberg and Linn Lambert won the u10 boys and girls categories.
